Review on πŸ’Ž High-Quality ASNOMY Carbide Square Mill - Precision Grinding Tool for Efficient Cutting by Aaron Parish

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great Value.: Square Nose

First, understand that these are true metric 6mm cutters. Shank 6 mm, blade diameter 6 mm. This can be a problem on many small milling machines if you only have regular inch size R-8 collets or inch size end mill holders. I actually have a set of R-8 metric collets. somewhere. but the best solution is to get ER collets. I like ER-16 tool holders with R-8 shanks. If you have more than one, you can set them up as repeatable, fixed-length tools for low-volume production. Especially nice if your machine is a 3-axis CNC. I also have 3/4" shank extensions in various lengths that also fit the ER-16 collet. I can extend the stock as much as I want by holding the extension in a standard 3/4" R-8 collet. Ideal for getting into hard-to-reach places. Well, my point is that standard ER collets cover a wide range with each collet and will fit whatever cutter diameter you have. In fact, the base measurement system for them is metric anyway, so each series (ER-11, ER-16, ER-20, etc.) has an ER collet that will hold those 6mm shafts perfectly. a handy size as it allows you to make a fine cut in a 1/4" slot without having to switch to a much less rigid cutting size like a regular 3/16" cutter head. To an experienced machinist, what appears to be an "odd" cutting diameter isn't really a problem, it's just another number that you enter into the CNC like any other number in your calculations or as a tool diameter offset. These cutters have an AlTiN coating which (in my opinion) is best for high speed machining. Most Bridgeport type mills can't even start spinning at that speed and for them TiCN might be the best coating from what I've read. But AlTiN will certainly fit. Ground and finished to perfection, these end mills come in beautiful individual packaging. They look like they could easily cost $20 or more each so I'd say at the current price of $30 for five it's a lot.

Pros
  • Wide Application: Nano carbide milling tools are ideal for hard materials, carbon steels, alloy steels, pre-hardened steels, hardened steels, cast iron, titanium alloys, graphite, plastic, composites, etc.;
Cons
  • unreliable
