An invaluable tool for measuring the height of trees (or other objects)

I bought this level to replace an inclinometer and it works great for that purpose. Much cheaper than an inclinometer, I believe it will be just as accurate. It is used to measure the height of the tree by observing the groove at the top of the tree. I've used it for this purpose before and it's accurate - using the formula tree height = tangent (degrees) X distance from tree; Then just add the height difference of your eyes from the ground (it's easy to correct for topographical tilt with the same level). This level is only measured in degrees (not percentage of incline), which doesn't really matter since the height formula is simple. It also has a "Hold" button to lock your measurement while looking down; very convenient. Just count the degrees from the plane and plug them into your formula. just over 16 inches long; weight about a pound. The manual says you get 100 hours on two AAA batteries (included); automatic shutdown after 5 minutes. Unfortunately, since the power button is on the side, it's easy to accidentally turn it on. Although it's not mentioned anywhere, I suspect it's made in China. I would recommend this product to a friend although the instruction manual could be improved.
