I am a hobbyist with a manual milling machine. So I'm learning as I go. I hope this review helps those like me. I use a Makita 701c bit with a 1/4" shank, 1/4" width and a maximum depth of cut of 1". So far I've used this bit on pine and cedar to make invisible (1/ 8") to a total depth of 1" with no problems, making the job quick. Based on other reviews pointing out broken bits, I tested this bit after my main hole project was completed - slower and more careful, I didn't have one Problem with cutting cedar 1/2" deep in one pass with this drill bit. I would not cut hardwood deeper than 1/8 inch with this router. I would definitely recommend this CMT for woodworking, especially softwoods. something) and made pretty clean cuts. I suspect that with the right router speed control it works well with hardwoods too, although I haven't tried it yet.
