Would be better with check valve

Overall I'm happy with the siphon hose, especially after adding the $3.12 Home Depot built in check valve. I'm retired and started to find it hard to hold a full 5 gallon can of gas when I was filling up my lawn mower. So I placed the gas canister on the mower's seat, started the siphon and watched the fuel level rise in the gas tank. However, after spilling fuel all over the tank, I found there was enough fuel left in the hose to cause an accident before I could damage the siphon. Installing a check valve solved this problem.
