I love these inserts later why 4 stars. The flange will hold them if someone pulls on them. Cherry is my wood of choice for furniture and the minimum thickness I've used is ¾ inch. I had issues with either the hole being too big and they didn't hold up well or being too tight and the wood cracking. Now I use a 2" hole that is ¼" deep, followed by a 1 ¼" hole that is 23/32" deep, a 1/2" hole that is 13/32" deep and a final 15/32" hole with a depth of 1/8". I dripped about two drops of superglue into the hole and drove it flush with a nut and bolt and washer to make sure the glue didn't get on the internal threads. I put a bit of glue activator in a spray can to set the glue on the non-outside threads. The only reason for four stars is that two of the three require threading or you will have trouble getting the screw in.
