So many knife blocks take up *so* much counter space that our small apartment doesn't have. It has enough slots to hold many of our knives and keep them handy (we keep some of our paring knives in a drawer, but we have a lot), but it doesn't take up much space. There are only 6 knives in our steak knife set, so they have the perfect number of slots. The only thing I would like to point out is that we have a very large chef's knife with a wide blade (the Rada French chef's knife) and we don't have slots wide enough for it. We have another chef's knife that fits in perfectly.
