Review on πŸ₯€ SodaStream Source Sparkling Water Maker - White (Carbonator sold separately) by Shane Jenkins

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works as advertised and can be inexpensive if you're already a homebrewer!

I bought this SodaStream second hand so it didn't have any of the flavors. All that was in the box was a water bottle and SodaStream, that's all I'll look at. Advantages: 1. Easy to use. As it was in use it didn't have an instruction manual but the instructions were written on top of the machine and I had no trouble getting it to work. 2. Airtight! During the carbonation, I didn't hear or see any sign of a leak between the bottle and the machine. I didn't see any water leaks or hear hissing, so it looks like all of the CO2 is going straight into the bottle. The next step is a bubble test to be sure. You control the amount of fizz based on how long you press on the car. When you release the 1st LED the carbonation is low, the 2nd LED gives you a medium carbonation and the 3rd LED gives you a high carbonation. Tried all 3 LEDs and got expected carbonation all 3 times. AGAINST 1. New ones are expensive and you can read the cost benefit analysis in some of the other reviews. If you want to make soda cheaper then maybe you shouldn't invest in this product. If you want sparkling water at will, then this is perfect. I'm in the latter category, so it's worth it for me. I like to make my own fruit flavors :). To bring the cost of branded CO2 tanks down a bit, I used my own homebrewing gear. The standard keg equipment includes a 5lb CO2 canister, which is MUCH larger than the tiny proprietary canisters SodaStream wants you to buy. I can't determine how much more because my CO2 is measured by weight and SodaStream is measured by volume. It's expensive anyway (about $80), but refilling costs about $15-20 at a local weld shop (yes, it's food safe. It's made for beer kegs). Then I went to eBay and found someone selling a hose with the right fittings (about $60). This setup worked like a champ too! Photos are attached. You could probably put the hose and fittings together for a lower price (your own site is about $20-$50 depending on where you buy), but I wanted to go with something I knew would work . Buying a used Sodastream and hookups cost me about $100. It will be about a year before I get my money back, but considering how much I use it and how convenient it is, I'm very happy with my purchase.
