Review on Skyjacker 7219 Steering Stabilizer Dual by Chris Peck

Boosts steering on big tires

Includes 2 steering stabilizers (shock absorbers). The first replaces the factory stabilizer. The second is clamped onto the tie rod and tie rod with U-brackets. It didn't quite fit my 2005 TJ. Fasteners used to attach the first stabilizer bar to the steering assembly did not match. The bolt was too thick. I got an 8 1/2-13 3.5" screw from Lowes to replace. You will also need a metal sleeve that fits into the sleeve. Only one socket is included (for the other end), but I had one from my old stabilizer bar. 3.5" is actually quite a long screw and you can probably use 3" if you want a shorter screw. I used a 1/2-13 2.5" screw to get the other one To attach the end of the stabilizer bar to the frame mount. The grommets gave this end a very tight fit. I had to bend the mount a bit to get it in there. The second stabilizer bar was easy. Just install the mounts with this shock has a 17" OAL closed and extended 25". You want to make sure the shock is exactly 21" long when you tighten the U-bolts. This will give you the most left and right travel. Because these dampers make your steering stiffer, don't turn your steering wheel when you're not moving. You don't want to overload your power steering. I have noticed a significant improvement in my steering stability. Before, every little impact made my steering wheel shake to one side, now it's bigger. I recommend them if you have 35 inch tires or more. That's probably overkill for 33 inches or less. This review sounds long, but it actually only took about an hour to install.

Pros
  • Absorbs vibrations from big tires
Cons
  • Almost never
