DON'T WORRY! Do yourself a favor and buy a solid rack like a Thule or Yakima, or an old-school Sears X-Cargo. it will not break for any apparent reason other than poor quality. WHAT GARBAGE. I replaced it with something similar from Walmart by Reese and it wasn't really that much better, although it didn't really fall apart (just leaked water). Luckily for both items, I anticipated that possibility and wrapped anything that wasn't waterproof in heavy plastic in the hold so I wasn't as upset as I might have been. But this thing fell apart on the third day of a nine-week trip across 32 states of America. I really wanted it to last the whole trip. Big disappointment.
