Great for portability but very SLOW!

I have a Retina MacBook Pro and an iMac, both without drives. So I had to buy an external one. While it's great for a MacBook, the cable length is very short for connecting to an iMac. I had to prop it up with a few things so it could reach. But I believe there might be a way to extend the wire a little further to connect a separate, longer wire that could be yours, which was a great decision by Buffalo. I also had a problem connecting to an iMac via Parallels. For some reason the drive wouldn't stay on. My guess is that the iMac might need an AC adapter plugged in, which I found odd considering it works fine with my MacBook. Instead of using the internal power supply for the drive itself, I hooked it up to a powered USB 2 hub for extra length, and after that it seems to work fine power-wise. The drive was a bit noisy but quieter than other internal desktop drives I own. This disk is also quite thin, but not the thinnest. The only thing that really confuses me about this drive is that it's REALLY slow. I have ripped a ton of my CDs onto my computers (MP3s) and I have used this drive with both my Macbook and my desktop with an internal DVD drive. The desktop DVD driver copied about 5-6 copies before this buffalo drive finished copying a CD. So if speed is important to you, you might want to explore a little more. I still need to hook up the Buffalo's internal power supply. I hope this can help speed things up a bit. I also love how Buffalo's uses built-in cables in their products. Make this drive highly portable, which is a priority for me. For the price (I paid $25 for the Revain at the time of purchase) this is best in class. I highly recommend.
