Read the product description carefully: There is NO need for an RJ45 (ethernet cable/network cable) coming from your modem/router and it magically splits into two SIMULTANEOUS network connections (with unique IP addresses) is divided). no It does, however, take an RJ45 and do one of two things with it: 1) split the RJ45 into two working RJ45s, but only one of those cables can be active at a time, or 2) if you're running two simultaneous RJ45s in one of those splitters/adapters.... then start your serviceline.... Then add another splitter/adapter at the other end of the service line.... This will split your single service line back into two working RJ45s (exactly what the item description says if you read carefully). Why do you want to do that you ask? Let's say you have a business, you've expended a lot of resources running RJ45/network cabling: it goes through the ceiling, the floor, maybe through the retail floor or through several walls, ending up at a workplace. . 6 months later you have decided to expand your reception with a second workplace. Now ask yourself: Are you willing to put in all the time and energy it would take someone to draw a second line through this whole mess? Or would it be easier to just buy these splitters, place one at each end of the line with a couple of short ethernet cables, plug them in and you're done?
