I tested the magnet with several different iron plate weights. It can lift 15 lbs, but not 20 lbs. And that's only if you lift it straight up--at an angle, it slides right off. It's the only large neodymium magnet I've ever had, so it seems pretty strong compared to old ceramic magnets, but to claim that this has 880lbs pulling force is an absolute and utter lie. Like I said, it can only lift 15 lbs straight up, but that's it. Haven't found anything but iron-bearing rocks. I honestly doubt that it is strong enough to catch and hold onto anything--any steel that you might find is likely to get knocked off the magnet as it is dragged across the lake bottom. It might work a little better if you're magnet fishing straight up and down. I got this one because I read that some other magnets are too strong and can crush little kids' hands. I let my kids play with it no problem--it could maybe crush a cockroach. Don't waste your money.
