Review on πŸ₯˜ 14-inch Black Lodge Pro-Logic Wok with Flat Base, Loop Handles by Zachary Ester

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Use it on an electric Flat Top, an experienced cast iron user.

all reviews said that it is heavy and huge. I couldn't find any good smaller cast iron woks so decided on this one as I was expecting a monster wok! It's not a terrible size. I like it. I like that this is an American product. The lodge enjoys an excellent reputation. I have a flat top electric stove and I bought it because it said it could run on electricity. It gets a little warm and I put it on a large stove to keep the sides hot. It worked pretty well, although it might have gotten a little better if my kids hadn't chosen lunchtime to distract me on my first try at wok cooking. I'm new to frying but have been using cast iron daily for years. It's been a while since I bought a new cast iron skillet (because they never need to be replaced. One of my skillets is actually my old MIL skillet). So pre-seasoning is new to me. This morning it seemed to peel the scrambled eggs. However, it was still just as non-stick as my other pans in my second batch of scrambled eggs. The lodge seems to offer a quality product. I really have a feeling this wok would be a rock star on a gas range but worked pretty well on my electric. To clean it I just poured some water in, used a nylon scraper, poured out the water and wiped dry with a rag. Turn on the burner until it is completely dry and wipe it down with some oil. I don't feel like this pan is too heavy than my other cast iron pans and when properly heated before cooking (I wait 6 minutes) it is fairly non-stick without the use of Teflon and never needs to be replaced. For those of you who have a rust problem, wash the pan well, dry thoroughly (use heat) and rub with oil. Your pan will be like new! In the photo my attempt to fry the pan. It turned out amazing!

Pros
  • understandable even for the old ones
Cons
  • low maintainability
