I obtained this hole saw and grommet kit as I'm building a LARGE desk/table for my work-at-home office. I mounted a long outlet strip on the back and I want to hide as many of the wires/cables as I can. Its going to be 2 computers, a printer, a scanner, monitors, headset mount, router, potentially more.The kit comes without instructions. Its pretty easy to figure out how to set it up (screw the hole cutter onto the spindle, extend the locks into the holes and tighten the spindle screw) but the process of cutting was not without some challenges.My test was to see if I could cut the hole cleanly without it skating across a painted wood surface. If the cut itself isn't perfectly clean, to at least see if the grommet inserts would cover any imperfections in the cut itself.It took some work to get through the plywood (see the pictures) but it did eventually cut cleanly (see pic 2). One problem was that the locking mechanism didn't clamp tight and it de-threaded itself as the head was rotating on the wood. The result is that the hole cutter did not remain tight to the spindle and the entire spindle fell out of the drill. I tried to retighten and that helped some, but I had the problem a couple times trying to make one cut. Once cut, I also had to remove the hole cutter to remove the plug; there was not a simpler way to get it out. The pictures above were a test cut in plywood.The cut was very clean and the cutter did not skate at all. The grommets fit neatly and perfectly in the hole and sat well against the shoulder of the hole. All in all, it came out perfect, though there were some challenges as said.I'm going to rate this as a medium recommend. The tool did the job, cleanly and perfectly but it took a little more time and patience than I expected. If you are looking for a hole cutter, this works fine, but expect to practice on some scraps first.
