Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Pair of Upgraded Liftgate Supports for 1996-2002 4Runner (Enhanced Lifting Power) by Eric Beck

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great fit. Good price for a pair. Made in the USA.

Great pair of tailgate stays for the 3rd generation 4th runner. Comes in a handy tube and well packaged. Fits perfectly on my 1999 T4R (SR5 but this one fits any variant). OEM fit and as another reviewer noted, the piston tube is a smaller diameter than stock. I think it looks a little more elegant if that's important to you. The force they provide is quite strong and will lift the gate about 6-8 inches after opening. You need to use some force to close the door after replacement. Holds the gate open very well when the rear window is down which was the issue that made me look for a replacement in the first place. I would say the only downside was that it took about 7 days to ship, that's more because I wanted to fix it once I found the right part, although that's just my individual quirk. But who can complain when shipping is free and the product is great. A few installation tips: - Hire a buddy or use a prop to raise the gate as high as possible while you work on it. You can do this with one hand, but it's a lot easier to work with two hands to get the pins, washers, etc. in the right place. Have a magnet handy or the snap rings will fly in an unexpected direction because they tend to. I find the best way to solve this problem is to attach the magnet to the case as soon as the ring is released so that it hooks the part before it bounces to where it's going to bounce. - Cover the gaps between the taillights and the bodywork with a small non-marking tape or rag to keep gear from falling in between. In this case you will have to remove the rear light to get it out. Overall not much but worth mentioning. The magnet trick also prevents this. My plastic bushings on the top were also worn/broken but still serviceable. It is possible that this is a generic part sold at dealerships that have a good supply of internal and external retaining clips for body panels such as panels or door panels. I would suggest Pep Boys for that. In the event that you lose or lose your locking ring you can easily get one at any major hardware store or from Pep Boys. Installation only requires needle nose pliers, but can also be done with a flathead screwdriver. for removing and installing circlips.
