Review on REELWORKS Heavy Duty Retractable Air Hose Reel - 50 Feet, 300 PSI, Steel Construction, Hand Crank, Locking Spring by Melota Phillips

Bit pricey for a reel only

Reelworks seems to be selling a bunch of different Chinese products under their brand, and while I love some of them, this one just doesn't quite hit the mark. It's fine as far as construction, but I see a full retracting reel with hose from another brand at the same price, just on ebay's "similar items" list at the bottom of the page. Adding a hose to this is going to cost your another $40 or so at least. If you're willing to go up in price (quite) a bit, Reelworks makes a beautiful retracting spool that comes with the hose (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072FR25GG).As far as the reel itself, with the small diameter, it will generally be easier to drag a long hose in, but you'll be cranking a lot more than with a larger, thinner spool. The lock mechanism (pictured) is straightforward, but I'm not sure it's totally practical. If you need it to lock, it's because you have the spool hanging at a level where gravity would make the hose just unspool on its own. For this mechanism you need to be at the spool to engage it. That means you'd need to unspool and pile up the desired amount of hose on the ground and then lock it. You can't just drag it across the room to where you need it. Beyond that, the kit comes with a couple of mounting bolt solutions and some Teflon tape.

Pros
  • Tools & Home Improvement
Cons
  • The locking spring mechanism may be prone to wear and tear over time
