Problematic for lighting but acceptable for non-glossy books
Without good light control (ambient lighting) you tend to get highlights on paper that shimmer from reflected light. If I had to change the design, I would place the LEDs on retractable/retractable light panels that could be offset 30 degrees from the plane of the book being scanned. Image quality and alignment software were pretty good, but glare from the lighting causes problems getting good scans of drawings from printed journals or magazines.
