This is a very good tripod, but it is heavier than expected. This is my third tripod. The first was ancient, weighed a ton, and was built like a tank. I bought lightweight aluminum and plastic in search of something I would like to carry around. It's perfect for the hobbyist that I am. I saw this one made out of carbon fiber and thought it would be even lighter and more portable. (The description used to say it included a detachable monopod, which also appealed to me, but that's not the case and is no longer part of the description.) The tripod has carbon fiber legs, but the top has a ball joint and a rotating one Neck and camera mount made entirely of metal. This makes the whole thing a bit heavy and overall heavier than my aluminum tripod. Do not get me wrong. It's a well-built tripod with built-in bubble levels and lots of nice features, including rubber feet that screw in to reveal the spikes for outdoor use, or screw out to hide the spikes for indoor use. The legs are extended or retracted with two levers each and slide very easily, but are firmly fixed. Unit weighs 3 lb 5 oz without carrying case. Overall this is a very well built tripod with good features but not very light.
