Review on πŸ’» Dell U3818DW QHD Ultrawide Gaming Monitor with LED Lit Screen, 3840X1600P Resolution by Billy Cunningham

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice picture, poor compatibility with OSX

I'm a web developer and this monitor is connected to a 2018 15 inch Macbook Pro with High Sierra 10.13.6. There are issues when my MBP goes to sleep (more below). Overall the picture quality is too good to dwell on such an issue again and I would recommend the monitor. Connected to the monitor: - External keyboard - Mouse (Bluetooth, but consumes power) - Speakers (draws power) - Webcam The monitor is then connected. to the MBP via a USB-C (Thunderbolt) connector included with the monitor. The MBP is also powered through this connection, so this is the only cable going to my MBP. The picture quality is amazing, it's very close, but I'd say it actually looks better than the MBP's retina display. I can comfortably insert 3 files side by side that are 120 characters long and still have room to display a 1050px wide webpage on the page. Now for the cons. The reason I deducted a star is because it really isn't compatible with OSX. When the MBP goes into sleep mode, the monitor searches for a signal for a while and then goes into sleep mode as expected. But then about 30 seconds to a minute later, the monitor wakes up, complains that there's no signal telling the MBP to wake up, and says its battery is fully charged before waking up fully. This is a common problem for OSX and Dell. Monitor, and it seems to be related to how OSX handles the single cable solution. Dell support forums blame OSX and say they won't support it. I hope OSX releases a patch that fixes the problem because the monitor really is too good to go back to anything like that. Personally, I got around this problem by making my MBP's sleep time very short so that even if it wakes up, it immediately goes back to sleep. a cable solution. Other than that, this is an amazing monitor.
