The standard factory assembly is a part behind the catalytic converter on my Jetta 1.8t mk4 '04 but broken down into 3 OEM parts. The factory part includes "Walker Exhaust Quiet-Flow 53388 Exhaust Muffler Assembly", "Walker Exhaust Quiet-Flow 55276 Exhaust Muffler Assembly" and some decorative exhaust tips that extend beyond the bumper and are made of heavy gauge stainless steel , welded pipe and are cut at an angle. It extends to the muffler of my '04 1.8t Jetta. This part ends under the bumper and directs the exhaust down. You can cut off the bent portion at the end and add exhaust tips, or simply cut the flared stainless steel tubes from the piston assembly and use them as a vanity extension. The standard tube fits right over the 55276 outlet tubes, but you'll need weld, a bolt, or tape and string to hold them in place. I think VW sells a two-piece replacement behind the cat. The one-piece design offers manufacturing efficiencies, but it would be impossible to completely replace it without removing the axle or adding a cut and joint.
