I was surprised by their weight but they are very well made. I like the little comb that comes with it so I can clean the blades. I wash them immediately after use, but they are stainless steel, dry and clean. It seems that if treated well, they can be passed from generation to generation. And they cut great! :) Edit: I have to say however after reading other reviews that I use it to make salads for one so I'm not sure how they would handle it if I had to chop bunches of herbs. I mainly use kitchen shears to chop veggies and I prefer them because they cut more, but compared to a chef's knife, no - they won't replace a chef's knife in terms of cutting volume or speed. As far as how I use them (and will continue to use them), I simply prefer scissors to knives whenever possible, and that fits the bill. I know some people (unfortunately) got scissors sent from China and not what they ordered. I'll edit as needed, but my search shows that Westmark instruments are mostly made in Germany. I will explore more.
