Worked great on my 99 Tacoma 4x4 v6. There is a very important trick you can use to push the lever axle back far enough to make the cable pop out of position. In my first drawing you can see what you need to remove. The 10mm nut holding the brake sensor is not shown. You will see it when you are there. Remove the pin with pliers or a pick, push the large metal pin towards the passenger side. This will also cause the little white wheel to fall out. Remove the metal tab. Use a flat head to pry it out, then use pliers to pinch the open end a little. The new cable is slightly narrower in this area, allowing the tab to hold it firmly in place. Now for the trick, look at my second picture. This is the bottom view of the emergency lever tube. Now notice the two pins I've circled? They hold the ratchet that you hear when you pull the brake. This mechanism prevents the lever from going deep into the pipe. You have to feel for it, so put your hand on that mechanism by the pins. SLOWLY pull the brake lever back and you will feel two more small pieces of metal sticking out. Notice how it rotates back and forth with each ratchet? Slide two metal objects forward (towards the engine) and with your other hand twist and push down on the brake lever as if releasing it normally. Be aware that this allows the wave to go further in, which can cause the end of the rope to come loose. Push everything down and pretty much everything else should be versed from under the truck. Additional Tips: This new wire end that goes to the back of the truck is larger than the original. You'll see what I mean, but it doesn't fit 100%, so I just put a large flat head in this mount and rotated it to widen the gap. This finial also has what appears to be a simple pin holding it in place. in place, almost exactly like the white wheel above. Mine got stuck in the tip of the cord. It wouldn't fit. I had to put a 14mm short head on it and then slide it up from the bottom with a C-clip. Again, you have to see it to understand its meaning. It took me 2 hours. Could have been shorter without rust and I had to deal with the ratchet myself. Much luck!
