Review on Remote control Logitech Harmony Companion (915-000240), black by Wiktor Krzysztof Kor ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The perfect purchase for me, exactly what I was looking for!

It can be stated that none of the other manufacturers even came close to developing such a class of remotes, with a powerful base of supported home devices, and a friendly scheme for setting up usage scenarios. Something similar (and even more) is available only for installer-level devices, but with a completely different price tag and complex programming. Logitech's phasing out of the Harmony line marks - or is an echo of the end of an era when three to seven home devices were widely used (usually within a home theater) and for the convenience of controlling them, Harmony remotes were a great help. In modern times, to view or listen to content, one box on some android is enough, or even one TV .

Pros
  • Aesthetic and very ergonomic design (here I would venture to say that the Companion outperforms its elder brother Elite in this indicator). Comfortable and logical arrangement of keys. Long battery life (the reverse side of the coin is the lack of backlighting of the keys). Together with the capabilities of IFTTT, you can go beyond the functionality provided by the manufacturer, and connect smart home devices, etc., to scenarios that are not initially supported.
Cons
  • The most fundamental drawback of all Logitech Harmony remotes at the moment can be considered the manufacturer's decision to stop producing them. Coupled with the need to contact the Logitech cloud to set up the console and save its configuration, this implies the risk of stopping this service at some point, and potentially turning the console into a "pumpkin" (if no alternative is found or offered to implement the above operations). In the absence of a screen, there is no flexibility in terms of full control of specific home devices (limited only to those buttons and functions that are present in scenarios by default or that are additionally programmed). On the other hand, this is rarely required, and if you still need it, the Harmony app on your phone comes to the rescue - it has everything in general, but it’s not so convenient to hold and press the buttons, as is the case with the remote control.
