I bought these to eliminate the need for separate heat and UV lights in a red-eared slider aquarium. While they work well, they appear to deliver about the same, or maybe slightly less, heat than an equivalent standard incandescent bulb. Be sure to read and follow the instructions provided with the lamp regarding the removal of the lamp from the heating area. Placing such bulbs too close can harm the animal. Due to the high UV output, the closest placement of these lamps is 12 inches and possibly further depending on the animal. This affects the ability to use the heating aspect of the lamp. 8 inches and now has to run it at 12-18 inches, this could be good for UV but doesn't give enough room to warm up. Overall this is a good lamp at a lower price than well known brands. Just make sure it works properly in your application to provide enough heat while following the spacing recommendations.
