Review on Perplexus Epic: Conquer the Challenge of Interactive Obstacles! by Brent Henderson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I love everything about Perplexus, but this leaves a lot to be desired.

On the one hand, I like the unique approach to Spinning Maze puzzles. They have four concentric circles, and they all move in the opposite direction from their neighbors. And it's motorized, where you can move at one of three different speeds with a button you press to temporarily "stop" it, or vice versa. it will stop unless you press the button. That's very smart! On the other hand, I don't think they put as much emphasis on the actual puzzle mechanics as others. Do not get me wrong. The product is surprisingly durable and doesn't feel cheap at all. I mean, unlike other Perplexus products, the way the ball rolls - or rather doesn't roll - is more what I'm talking about here. They had to take a little more time to make sure the ball rolled really easily down the lanes. You know. reduced transition from one area to another etc. As it is now it's not so much like skill (like others) but more like dumb luck which takes some of the fun out of it. I would place it in the bottom half of my favorite Perplexus puzzles, although closer to the top half of that half.

Pros
  • Pretty packaging
Cons
  • Good, but not great
