My son loves it! he is 7 years old - perfect for looking at the wings of a butterfly, the petrified frog we found under a flowerpot last fall, the skin on our hands, our hair and the like! (Magnification is not intended to see bacteria or the interior of plant cells.) With the help of my 15-year-old son, my son immediately mastered the focus, photo, and video functions with ease. We haven't tried downloading or transferring anything to our computer yet, but when we do I'll update this review. Very plug and play - works right out of the box. The picture quality appears to be normal/good/clear. It's much easier than looking through a tiny eyepiece with one eye. If this is a purchase for a curious kid, I don't think you need suffer much - just buy it. Also, we love having two side lights that illuminate the subject from different angles - useful!
