My old shower valve was really stuck. I had to take the front off first. Then twisted the back end back and forth until it was free, then pulled out the rest. I read other reviews on this setup and noticed that the front seals are tight. However, prior to installation, I completely cleaned the inside of the valve body at the junction of the front seals. Again a tight fit. but with constant pressure in a straight line, the valve seats properly. It took me about an hour to swap out the valve, tub spout, and overflow cap as they all needed to be replaced. In the photo the original valve is ok, the valve holder next to the new one is dirty, the steel wool seal that I used to clean it, I got extra O-rings, I think you need them? and the valve is installed. I hope it lasts 9 years like the old one!
