Electric Fan vs Clutch Fan

If you have a clutch fan I highly recommend you switch to an electric fan. Here are the pros and cons I've encountered when making the switch. BENEFITS / No more loud "roaring" noise when accelerating, throttle/accelerate much more responsive when stepping on the accelerator, A/C temp stays low when stopping and - driving in traffic and parking, I don't have the gas mileage though reviewed should be an improvement just due to the fact that the engine slows less, the engine also runs much cooler which is an achievement because I live in Phoenix, Arizona. CONS: This project is not for the novice mechanic. Do not mount the electric fan directly to the radiator with the straps provided. It's too close and doesn't use the full cooling capacity of the heatsink due to the proximity. You might get away with this in cooler climates too, but I suspect it will be an issue in hotter seasons. The fan should be installed with the radiator fan shroud approximately 4 inches from the radiator. I was able to design and fabricate a fan mount to an existing fan shroud but again this is not for the novice mechanic. The positioning of the fan within the existing fan cover is crucial to get the maximum cooling performance of the electric fan. The fan shroud should have a good seal around the heatsink and the fan should be in the existing fan shroud in roughly the same position as the old fan clutch. Here's my recommendation: If you're swapping 2 electric fans, don't look for the cheapest way to do it. I would recommend getting a reputable brand like Flex Light with a cover to fit your particular vehicle along with a thermostat kit. Also, fans with S-shaped blades are much quieter than those with straight blades.
