I ordered this as a security sensor to install on my side gate. It worked really well - a couple of small lead anchors/screws were used to attach the switch to the concrete block and self-tapping screws to attach the magnet mount to the wrought iron rail. There is at least two feet of flexible wire connected to the switch and eight inches of wire at the end. More than enough to fit in a weatherproof box. I have a gap of about an inch and a quarter, no problems at all. I'm going to paint the magnet with street paint since the sun is beating down on it, and I guess it's not really meant for that. Great product from a very reputable company.
