I had to clean an entire house (1400 square feet of carpet). The blade was ready for dirt when I was done with it, but it worked very well and cut through carpet like butter. I have found that the best way is to cut the carpet from the back. Start at one end of the room, pull it up a section, maybe 5 feet, and flip it onto its back, then hook the blade into the edge of the rug and pull toward you so the blade catches its work can do. As you near the end of the cut - about two feet from the end, simply hook the blade on the other edge and pull in the direction of the cut already made (protect the woodwork and walls from chipping). Cutting a piece of carpet was quicker than rolling it up and tying it up. It took maybe 20 seconds to cut 12 feet. Towards the end of the job it took 25-30 seconds to carve the same 12 feet. I bought another one to have on hand.
