I think they are far superior to OEM locks. I see no need to lock and unlock the hook with them. My truck didn't have mounting plates so I had to buy them. The easiest way was to install the Dee Zee hooks to the panels before installing them in the truck bed. I didn't have the problem that others have mentioned where the screw was too long after installing it on the bed. There was some interference in the mounting tabs and narrow slots, but the aluminum warped slightly to fully fit the Dee Zee hook. The design of the hook itself looks reasonable. It is smooth, which prevents the ropes from fraying. They seem strong enough to bind loads.
