Review on πŸ“Ά Cisco-Linksys WRT600N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router with Storage Link - Ultra RangePlus by Jonathan Self

Revainrating 2 out of 5

WRT600N is a mixed bag

Signal strength is < 50%, which is about 20 points lower than the WRT54G that replaced the 600. However, I was under the impression that the throughput at n is actually better, perhaps because there is no external interference from a phone on the same frequency, or microwaves. What you have to do is decline the installation of EasyLink Advisor. This SW was more of a hindrance than a help. It also seemed to introduce some instability into the LAN connection; Now that I've uninstalled EasyLink Advisor, the local connection seems to be back to normal. I haven't experimented with plugging a USB drive into the router; NAS seems like a good feature when it works well. Was the product worth $200 (including shipping and sales tax)? It got me away from internet kiosks and put me off when my wife decides to have a cup of coffee or when the phone rings. At least it didn't hurt the connection. Perhaps the prefix is the "icing on the cake”. You have to decide the price compromise yourself; For me, the value for money is three stars. UPDATE: This router was discontinued in 2011 in favor of the "NETGEAR Wireless Router Dual Band Gigabit N600 (WNDR3700)" which is vastly superior to other routers. The transaction was Electronica Direct, which sent out emails confirming the order and delivery. Arrived so quickly I didn't have time to track it!
