Very nice upgrade - a little careful

I bought the WRT600N to replace my old G-based Buffalo WiFi router. I recently bought a laptop with N support built in, also I was looking for better coverage and more features. This router seems to fit the bill. The laptop connects everywhere in my apartment with an excellent signal level at a speed of 270 Mbps. I can't ask for much more. The signal strength on my other wireless devices (2 Tivos and PS3) is also excellent. 90%+. I rated it 4 stars for 2 reasons: 1. My two Tivos unexpectedly…

Difficult to set up and not compatible with other Linksys routers

First of all I have to say that the NAS function does not work at all. The first time you set it up it works and after that no one can guess. I just forgot it was there and use it like any other wireless router. I have experience as a network administrator and I've had a hard time getting it to work the way I wanted and that means understanding what's inside each little switch. on this thing does. I can't think of anyone who is less familiar with these inconsistencies! The installation wizard…

Easy Setup - Very Disappointing Wireless Performance

I bought this because I was giving my daughter a D-Link DIR 655 that I had (which worked very well). Since I needed a new device, I decided on the WRT600N. Everything started very well. Installation was easy and intuitive. The network is set up and you'll be up and running in minutes, or so you thought. My wife's computer is connected to the router via 1GB Ethernet, and of course the connection is very fast. I have a ReadyNAS NAS that is also connected to the router with a 1GB Ethernet…

WRT600N is a mixed bag

Signal strength is < 50%, which is about 20 points lower than the WRT54G that replaced the 600. However, I was under the impression that the throughput at n is actually better, perhaps because there is no external interference from a phone on the same frequency, or microwaves. What you have to do is decline the installation of EasyLink Advisor. This SW was more of a hindrance than a help. It also seemed to introduce some instability into the LAN connection; Now that I've uninstalled EasyLink

Great upgrade to 802.11n

I've been using Linksys since I first connected to the internet via cable TV. Linksys/Cisco still make great products. Before I started, I saved my old Linksys router configuration to a file on my PC. I also printed out many of the web administration pages with configuration information. Installing the WRT600N was very easy. I unplugged my old router, ran new cables, and plugged in the 600N. Unfortunately, the EasySetup CD did not work correctly on my PC. The 600N has the same web management…

good router but difficult to set up connecting to media storage

Bought this router and other N-type wireless accessories in 2008 and decided to share my feedback. I was excited about the range and speed claims of wireless N networks, it was enticing enough. However, after setting it up and using it, it turned out that normal obstacles like walls, etc. severely affect the range. The average speed is around 180 Mbps, which is excellent compared to the old 54 Mbps that Linksys routers had. Communication is usually constant, with small losses, of course…

Up and down on computers and accessories

I bought this router with a dma2100 media center extender (I posted a review for the DMA2100). I "switched" from the WRT300N to this router because I found it advantageous for gigabit networking and an additional USB port for storage. I never used the storage connection option as I spent most of my time gulping down the router. The main problem I had was DNS resolution. I could see the machines in the DHCP client list, but I couldn't ping by name. As a result, when a drive was mapped on one of…
