So the ad tried to state it depends on angle and thickness of steel etc…. on how well this magnet will work. But a 700 pound magnet should be able to pick up at least 50 pounds of metal one would assume. I’ve had better. The magnet only picks up from the bottom not the sides so you need to drop it exactly on top of the item you dropped in the lake. Or, pick it up and go straight down not sideways to find things. This would work really well at a elementary school fair at a game booth! But not so well in the lake looking for stuff or retrieving your lost item. Fun for kids to play with but that's about it
