Good for a starter kit to figure out if you would enjoy magnet fishing. Magnet is very strong. First time out yesterday for a little over an hour we found pliers, a chain, two fishing lures, a bunny cord, nails and four beer bottle caps. Lots of fun when you find something. Nice long rope is good quality. Little scraper works great clearing trash metals off of magnet. Haven't used hook yet. Storage bag is nice size. Very pleased.

This really was a fun family activity throwing this magnet into the lake and streams. We caught nothing except for tiny rocks but we had such a good time doing it. It led us to an adventure down a stream that made for fun family memories regardless of how unsuccessful we were in finding any magnetic treasures. I purchased this to find obstructions in my pond. I found a t post and pulled it right out. After my pond was clear I gave it to my kids who ensured it made it with us to Florida on vacation. I was disappointed to see how much it rusted after using it in salt water but its perfect for lakes and rivers.

I have not been able to use this yet, when I got it and showed off my new toy to a veteran magnet fisherman, he said I should have gone bigger. I figured I wouldn’t be able to lift 400 lbs on my own so it wouldn’t matter, I’m just looking for junk, not trying to raise the titanic. So the ad tried to state it depends on angle and thickness of steel etc…. on how well this magnet will work. But a 700 pound magnet should be able to pick up at least 50 pounds of metal one would assume. I’ve had better. The magnet only picks up from the bottom not the sides so you need to drop it exactly on top of the item you dropped in the lake. Or, pick it up and go straight down not sideways to find things. While I have not yet used this to pull anything out of water, I am pleased to say that this magnet is quite strong, and if it is attached to a flat metal plate it is very difficult to remove it without sliding it to an edge and prying up one side first. The included rope is sturdy, appears to be of good quality, and it came with a nice carrying bag.

Small and hardly holds onto magnetic objects from the water without careful pulling. It’s not as big or as strong as I imagined when ordering! I am dying to try out magnet fishing but I would recommend a larger and stronger magnet. I’ll try it out a few more times over the summer and update my review later on after more experience with it.
