Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Tormek DBS-22 Drill Bit Sharpener: The Ultimate Sharpening Jig Attachment for Water-Cooled Tormek Systems by Michael Hellewell

Not very easy to use, but you can do amazing work with this tool

First, this thing is not easy to use. What it does best is the hardest part - making precise cuts on both sides of your drill in exactly the same way. This tool does a great job of making even cuts. What it lacks is that it is an intuitive tool. I read reviews, watched videos and read instructions. He told me what to do but not exactly how to do it. For example, after choosing your primary aspect, you must choose your secondary aspect, but how much is that enough? Any chart? Any guidance? Then taking .040 out of the drill at the end will shed the twist pattern if you started with a straight cross. You must be smart to just overclock the drill a little, or even full power when it's pretty full. How much does a drop or full shebang cost? Exactly - you should use Kentucky Windage as a guide based on your previous pairs of practice exercises that you may or may not have tested. With this tool you will never use a dull drill again. I started by sharpening the drill bit 1/2" as instructed (a kind of metal dust that floats in water) I decided to take a look. I used a 10" piece of 1/8" x 2" duct tape . It went through the metal leaving a smooth, polished cut that looked like it was a machined hole. I even held the ribbon to feel the cut and it was smooth and silky. Was it worth the gold bars? To me, this is a zen-like activity that allows my brain to go into a neutral state and easy to work with the tools with my hands. No calendar, no phones, no meetings - just time to rest my brain and my body to complete the movements of the work. Automobile. It's such a peaceful tool. He heals me the way a week on the beach in Hawaii might heal me. Just tools and peace. Yes, it's worth it.

Pros
  • Always the same two cutting edges are sharpened symmetrically and work perfectly in unison, prolonging the life of the drill bit
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
