I'm posting this review after a few weeks of use. This drive is amazingly compact. So some protection and care should be taken when storing and using it (I bought a hard case). I have an ASUS laptop and based on the reviews I think it's best to use a drive from the same manufacturer. .This drive is perfect for your laptop bag or backpack. I had absolutely no problems with this drive. The performance is quite in line with what is expected of a small and light external drive. It's not lightning fast, and I've found seek times to be a bit slower than my desktop device. After purchasing this drive I was able to connect it to my new laptop which does not have a DVD drive. This allowed me to buy a much thinner and lighter laptop, as well as features I could have done without, including the cost of storage (more storage). I'm sure this drive will work with products from other manufacturers, not just ASUS. However, note that TWO USB connections are required to function properly. I rate it 5 stars for value, light weight, and ease of use. Overall I gave it 4 stars because I feel it could have been made a little more durable and they could have at least included a protective cover or case.
