Review on Norton Waterstone Flatting Starter Kit by Clint Mcloven

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great starter kit for sharpening with Waterstone.

Great starter set for sharpening with Waterstone. I used to use whetstones for sharpening, but I was interested in "better" sharpening of knives and razors, so I had to find quality stones. and they were available at a very good price (there was even a voucher for Revain here). The set contains 3 stones. Brick 1: 220/1000 (220 on one side, 1000 on the other) Brick 2: 4000/8000 (4K on one side, 8K on the other) Brick 3: Tiles (a very important part of the set) These are excellent quality ceramic stones. Since these are water stones, you should soak them in water before use and keep moistening them while sharpening. But you don't need long. 15 minutes is probably enough, but I soak them for 30 (I don't think I've ever had a "knife sharpening" emergency, so no problem this time). When I received the set I checked that they were flat. and they were damn close. Just a few hits with the flat rock and I was ready to go. These stones give a really good progression to a razor sharp edge. Okay, I did it, I used the term "razor sharp" that you see in many descriptions of sharpeners. However, they can give you a sharp and smooth edge to put on a razor and shave with. (Full disclosure, I also bought a stone for 12000 to sharpen a razor but they can do it if you work with it properly). The stones arrived in great shape, I love that the containers can also hold the stone while sharpening (I don't use it that way because my setup doesn't require it). Don't drop them. they will break. Not a fault or problem with the stones but due to the way they are made. All in all great stones. I've had a lot of success with them and I'm still learning how to do my job better.
