This circuit finder works really really well. You have to follow the instructions that come with it and it pointed out the circuit breaker exactly. As per the instructions, and many people here have already said so, plug in the signal transmitter box (either plug it into an outlet, or if you bought a lightbulb adapter plug it into the adapter and then take out the lightbulb and screw the transmitter with the lamp adapter on it) to the desired location. You then go to where your main electrical panel is (usually in the basement or garage of new homes) and push a button to turn on the receiver (the longer of the two pieces that came with the order), using the power switch forward to the ceiling, lower the first set and raise the second set of circuit breakers. You can also do it differently. You're training your receiver, so ignore any beeps or lights until you've cleared any circuit breakers. During the second pass, the receiver then only beeps on the correct switch. To test this, toggle this switch off and if it's correct it will stop beeping when you drive by with the receiver. I also tested this to try to trace or trace the wire and it only worked great in the small amount I tested, but it didn't have drywall on it. It was in a group of other wires, but I was able to isolate and identify the correct wire.
