Works with a specific type of load

First, there are no instructions, it keeps slipping. After figuring out the correct installation, I still slipped through. Then I did a video search on this brand (Smart Cam Buckle Belts) and found out why these straps are not suitable for my load (kayaks on a flatbed). Straps require a load to exert limiting resistance/tension in order for the teeth to remain engaged on the buckle. For example, motorcycles with shock absorbers. The video also shows when such straps should not be used on an ice pack. If the load shifts and the straps sag after being tensioned, the cam will flex/slip. I live on a dirt road that is a bit bumpy for about a quarter mile. After navigating down the street with kayaks moving a bit, there was enough slack to get it loose from the attachment point. Not sure if all cameras are designed this way or just this set. Hopefully there is a clamp buckle that bites into the strap even when the load is in motion. The kayak manufacturer advises against using ratchet straps as they can cause damage.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
