Given the ease of drilling holes for cabinet hardware, quite an effort is required. This should be spot on, and if your holes don't line up even slightly, you may have just messed up an expensive closet door. This product relieves much of that stress at a significantly lower price point than many similar products. Unless you make a living from wall cabinets, you probably won't need this light more than once, so why spend a lot? However, be aware that you often get what you pay for and this light is unlikely to be as accurate as more expensive models straight out of the box (bag). My first grip was just a little off-line, which made me realize the plastic has enough flexibility to risk throwing things off. Add a level to your setup and you'll be fine. After all, if you're adding handles to a cabinet set, you're buying it. This will help you complete the project faster and with fewer critical issues than doing it by hand (we're talking millimeters of a plumb line and probably nobody but me will notice). If you intend to professionally install cabinet hardware on a regular basis, or even once, it may be worth investing in a model with a little more metal.
