Review on Samsung NX 50-200mm f/4.0-5.6 OIS Zoom Camera Lens (Black): Powerful Photography Performance by Richard Bowens

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best telephoto lens in the NX family at a reasonable price, but I'm still missing a 400mm lens for my NX1

This lens was developed by the world of Nikon and similar to the Nikkor 55 -300, but is much better on video. Although it's not a Samsung NX VideoPro lens, it offers smoother zooming and focusing in my opinion. It doesn't emit the tone of Nikkor lenses and delivers a very clear image despite its small size. I use this lens for wildlife and environmental photography with my NX1 as it is a faster lens than the more expensive NX Videopro 18-200mm. Samsung offers a very good range of NX lenses, even a fixed focal length lens that produces 3D, but I still miss the more powerful telephoto lens in their family. As an NX1 camera with the best image quality, ultra-fast hybrid autofocus and weather-resistant body, you might wonder why, if these are characteristics of a camera that should work outdoors, it doesn't have a 'serious' NX telephoto lens. Lens? Prime NX telephoto lenses have a focal length of just 150mm. So you only have a 50-200, it's a good lens at a very reasonable price. If you're shooting nature with an NX camera, you need this lens, even if it can't fully replace a much-needed 400mm telephoto lens. Update: Samsung has an NX 300 f/2.8 ED S OIS telephoto lens that hasn't hit the market yet. In addition, Samsung has the entire NX range on standby, despite being to the highest standards (like the NX1) and leaving customers stranded. However, I remain hopeful that the NX line will be relaunched. While this is happening, SAMYANG has released many additional lenses for NX cameras.

Pros
  • Take photos from long distances and stunning close-ups
Cons
  • Periodicity
