Update 10/23/18: It's been a year since I bought it and I've used my Stirmate at least a hundred times (about 250-300 hours). It still works perfectly. I've used it to make all kinds of sauces (stews, bolognese, velouté and spanish sauce, ice cream and gelato bases, puddings, puddings, soups and jams). It helps a lot to reduce the water content, especially when necessary. must be done very slowly. It is used to gently clean the bottom of the pot or casserole and to evenly distribute the mixture of the cooked food. That being said, I've found that it works best with straight-sided, flat-bottomed pans. I've used it to thin syrup for something like flan, but it doesn't work well with very viscous foods like toffee, heavy caramel, or fudge. In general I am very satisfied. 11/03/2017: I just got the Stirmate and used it for the first time. It works surprisingly well, appears to be very well made and made from solid materials. The mechanics are amazingly strong, delivering plenty of torque and for an hour or so that I've been using it, it hasn't slowed down at all. It's very quiet, but not silent. The stirrer itself is simple but ingenious - it's basically on floating loops (top and bottom) so it can automatically adjust to suit whatever pot size and shape you're using. You don't have to worry about the end hanging off the outside of the pot - it won't be damaged by indirect heat. The Sturmate is powered by a 9 volt battery like a smoke detector. I've been looking at this product for a few months now and am deciding whether to buy it or not. The first version of Stirmate used regular battery, then they offered external rechargeable battery and this new version has internal rechargeable battery. You can replace the battery or use a regular battery if you forget to charge it. I just love it because lately a lot of devices have to be thrown away when the battery dies. Delivery was quick. From California to New York in just 2 days. The package was sent in a paper envelope with bubble wrap. The envelope was broken on one side, and the stirring stick was dangling. Maybe I should deduct a star for that, but I think the fact that there was no damage only speaks to the build quality. Before ordering, I wrote to the seller and he said that the Stirmate has a one-year warranty (excluding the battery). instantly (delicious), but I'm sure it will get even better as it cools and hardens. Bottom line, Stirmate is worth the money and definitely better than standing over a hot stove for hours stirring and stirring like some recipes call for.
