Great for scanning large batches of photos

Scan quality is so-so, but most of the photos I've scanned don't benefit from a higher resolution scan. There is definitely a streak problem if you don't clean between scans. I ran a cleaning cycle about every 50 photos and everything was fine. The stripes are best seen against a dark background. But with limitations, this scanner met my needs exactly. I had some old 3x5 and 4x6 prints that I needed to digitize. This scanner was very fast and easy to use. You don't even have to press a button to start scanning, just pop it into the slot. I used my tablet for very special, old or unusual photos. But I processed about 1500 "standard size" photos in about 3-2 hours. This included cleaning in between. This did not include handling filenames in Windows and other file organization tasks. I didn't use any software, I just let Windows manage the SD card when I was done. It is inconvenient that you cannot see quickly when scanning. I tried doing this by plugging in a USB cable, but it was slower because I had to open each file after scanning. It would be ideal if it just pops up spontaneously so you can make sure the scan went well. I also knew the company was out of business and that I would be the one supporting it. But the price and convenience made it worth the risk. It cost $50 at worst to save a bit of time compared to scanning from a flatbed. Despite the excellent quality, each flatbed scan takes at least 4 times as long, possibly even more than 8 times. 6 hours compared to 24 or 48 hours! The purchase was worth it, even if it broke today and I will never use it again. Trying to process a lot of photos on a tablet is excruciating.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Some minor issues
