Review on 1AC-A1-II Fluke πŸ’‘ VoltAlert Non-Contact Voltage Tester by Brian Evans

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It should not be missing in any household

This page covers several editions of the Fluke sensor, to be clear, we are talking about 1AC-A1-II. For about 20 years I had an earlier version, 1AC-A. It lit up but didn't beep. And he was always there. He died after a second battery leak. That's right, even with it constantly on, a pair of AAA batteries lasted about 10 years. This one (1AC-A1-II) is not always on, it has a power switch. It has two modes: Sound and Silent. Use silent mode when you check in after the kids have fallen asleep, or when you're asked to fix an electrical connection in a meeting room during a meeting. Otherwise, the beeper mode is a valuable superfluous attraction. The beep/silent mode is controlled by how long you press the power button. The button is recessed to avoid accidental presses, but also makes it difficult to turn on and off and get the mode right. When turned on in any mode, the tip lights up with a characteristic double burst every few seconds. . When voltage is detected, the light becomes constant and an audible signal sounds. Insert the tip into the neutral slot and there is no signal. In the live slot there is. A signal goes through a live wire. Always test with a known live device first to make sure it lights up and beeps. In case the block is dead, you don't want your finger to play the role of a probe: it may glow, but it definitely won't emit a sound. neutral or live if there is a wiring error with a cross circuit. Or if you turned off the wrong switch. And there are things like miswired outlets where phase and neutral are reversed. So the question is not whether you understand electricity and plan to do the wiring yourself. These devices are not just for knowledgeable people. They tell you that touching anything in the house - the stove or the kettle - will give you an electric shock. These are essential tools in every household. And this is, in my opinion, the best consumer model on the market.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
