Great player

I tried the LG UP870 and while it's $150 less (as of March 2018) it's a much better player. two. It's strange that Sony is offering a lower product number with a newer player, but the X700 appears to be the new X800. Region independent - it works fine. DVDs are always region-free, while Blu-rays require you to press colors on the remote (instructions included with the player). and for some time in the future. The only downside of this player is the remote control. It's very cheap and light. Strangely, the remote (RMT-B119A) that came with my old Sony S5100 works great with this player and feels much better, so the old remote is now with the X700 and the new one is with the old S5100. Update 2 months later: The player is still holding up very well. No problem. Plays anything I throw. Unlike my old Sony USB Blu-ray player, this one doesn't keep the USB drive active all the time. So if you have a regular non-SSD USB drive, it will save your drive because it doesn't always exist all the time. If you want to use USB, just select it on the main screen and USB will start again. There seems to be a sleep timer that prevents the connected drive from turning on when not needed, which is nice. SSD drives via USB work well, but you don't really need them - USB 3.0 plays 4K/2160p video files from a regular external hard drive without any problems. Today there is now Dolby Vision.
