Long Review: Sports

I'll start with the negatives first. And despite what I can say here, I still recommend tires for specific conditions and circumstances. First, not all Continental bicycle tires are made in Germany. These (at least my 700 X 28) were made in India. Second, like my previous kit from Continental (Contact II series), they are NOT 28mm wide; at best maybe 700 x 27 or even 700 x 26.5 if measured with a cheap micrometer. Third, if you see Revain products marked under the regular price and advertised as "little used" or "returned" - DO NOT BUY! I bought two. And they came in two separate batches. The one right across the river in Edwardsville, Illinois. It was nice. The one shipped from Goodyear, AZ. (Phoenix area) came like the first one in a flat box - as it should be. But inside, the hoop was wrapped in plastic - in the shape of a figure eight, and then ROLLED! There is at least one spot on the wire bead that looks suspicious. So I'm glad I kept the old set of tires - in case I have to return the questionable ones. If the bead fails, I hope it's quick. So far, so good. On the other hand, I like tires with reflective sidewalls. Included is a photo from a dark corner of my basement with cell phone flash. They have a pretty strong profile for rough city streets and will pump out water if someone gets caught in a downpour. are they light Not 740 grams as stated on the Conti website. But then again... 1) I'm not "fat". 2) Anyway, they're on a Raleigh Clubman with a 4130 chrome-molybdenum (steel) frame and mount fairly easily with a nice set of tire levers from Nashbar. https://www.amazon.com/Nashbar-Steel-Core-Tire-Levers/dp/B00CM9NYUU Durability? Now it's hard to say. But the last set still has OVER 3,000 miles of usable profile left - just in case, as mentioned. Bottom line...if you're looking for a solid set of tires that won't break the bank, you simply can't beat the Continental. . Yes, there are lighter tires on the market. But for the conditions I ride and the bike they ride I still have to give them a thumbs up.
