I bought 5/16-18 x .789" inserts and practiced with about 30 of them using them on various projects. I followed the directions, everything worked great. I bolted the steel and aluminum frame to the top bench, as well as a massive bench vise. I bought these 1/4-20 x .5" for legs on a table with a live edge. instructions followed. I didn't have a 9mm (.354") drill bit, so I used an S (.348"). It should have been good and in my favor. Unfortunately, everything was too big and the inserts simply peeled off in the wood. $800 cedar board for live edging. I also glued them together with wood glue. But the next day, after they stood and hardened, the inserts just twisted. In the photos I have attached you can see the advertised design with great retention of their diameter over the height of the insert. There are also large fins. In the second photo is the short insert of the EZ Lok, which has tiny triangular ribs and tapers along the body of the insert. This is not at all what is advertised. In the second photo I have a competitor's insert. Despite the fact that it is twice as high, you can see large massive fins. I am very disappointed in the EZ Lok 1/4-20 insert.
