Before we ordered this set of Hephaestus barrier mats, my husband and I tried many times to install a DIY barrier system. Once I've used a plain cardboard box with cotton wool on it, once I've used a pegboard he made himself, etc. Trust me, it's not worth the hassle. This mat system works better than anything you could ever put up. The foam is easy to puncture and the pins stay in place. I also used it with bamboo skewers because I blocked a whole stack of hexagons, crocheted and that worked great too. The grid lines are also clearly visible. My only downside and the reason I didn't give this item five stars is that the package was shipped without the T-needles that came with it. I immediately contacted the store and explained that my pins are missing. I received an apology email back almost immediately and my T-Pins arrived just a few days later. They assured me that the camp had been made aware of the problem and it would not happen again and I believe them! These mats fold up and fit into a convenient storage bag. I would recommend this item to anyone who is looking for an interlocking mat for knitting or crocheting. I also think it would work well for jigsaw puzzles!
