Remember this is a higher speed helmet, not a bike helmet, it should be quiet but not uncomfortable. Just because it pinches your cheeks or feels tight doesn't always mean it's too small. Fits our 5 year old and we chose the size chart. Our son doesn't complain of any discomfort and it's light enough to put on without help. The buckle is great because it's easy enough for him to buckle and unbuckle (once he learns it).
